Medical SEO (Medical Practice) Case Study

Background

This client came on board with A1 SEO in May 2021. The client had gone through a variety of SEO consultants since 2016 but had seen their website stagnate for 3 years in a row. A1 SEO’s job was to turn the stagnating website into a success story fit for scale.

Strategy

Internal Linking

All of the service pages on this website lived in complete isolation to the rest of the website. These pages were ranking but very poorly. The SEO team at A1 SEO set about identifying, then organising the site’s content into groups, and then internally linking each page to other relevant pages.

EAT

The client had a really strong author profile. The problem was, the personal presence was more or less missing from the website. We added the client in as an author of their own content and chased links from some of the client’s previously published works that were unlinked.

Off-Page SEO

A1 SEO went big on digital PR here, winning big links from websites like telegraph.co.uk and independent.co.uk using HARO. These were massive trust factors in breaking through the higher-than-usual trust wall Google puts around websites in the health niche. After that, A1 SEO began powering up the inner pages with guest posts.

Content Tweaks

The content on the website was so out of date that some of it hadn’t been updated since 2011. A1 SEO pulled every page on the client’s website into a master database for the client then began silo’ing keyword research, pulling data directly from Google Search Console and using Ahrefs to fill in the gaps. Next, A1 SEO put the pages through a Surfer SEO Audit (we only really use the audit function here for internal links) and created a brief in Surfer SEO which highlighted LSI keywords to include and their recommended frequency. Finally it came down to writers pumping out new, optimised content for the client to review before publishing.

Local SEO

This client already had a fairly consistent review strategy and was publishing regularly on their Google My Business profile. The practice had moved premises a number of times over the years and we found inconsistencies

New Cluster Research & Content Creation

As mentioned, the content on the website was outdated. The client’s industry focused on procedures that went in and out of fashion. The client’s offering matched industry trends, however, the SEO Strategy did not. Ongoing research was conducted around new services. A1 SEO started off with a larger backlog of non-researched topics before moving to a more manageable “as needed” approach once the backlog was dealt with. A1 SEO researched new content clusters and grouped accordingly, before pushing new content through their in-house content creation systems.

Technical SEO

This website came with the usual problems:

  • Broken pages
  • Broken internal links
  • Redirect loops and chains
  • Slow page load times
  • And more…

These were all addressed in–house by A1 SEO.
